ORGANISATION
The 2011 FIFA women's football world cup was held in Germany from 26 June to 17 July 2011. The opening match with participation of the German team took place in Berlin, the final in Frankfurt. The German football association together with the host cities set themselves the target to vitally promote the development of women's football concerning the interest of spectators, media and sponsors with the organisation of the 2011 world cup.
Although Berlin "only" hosted the opening match which is comparable to the organisational challenges of the yearly German cup final, the FIFA requirements also applied to Berlin. This meant in principle the entire spectrum of organisational tasks of a FIFA world cup host city. The 2011 world cup office of the city of Berlin, established at the senate department for interior and sports, was responsible for the coordination of the planning and implementation of all world cup measures.
